Gravity Feed POP to Mimic Energy Drink Dispensor.

It’s All About ME
Audiovox gave us a project that most design firms would give their right arm (or left depending on which one clicks the mouse) to produce. It was the opportunity to re-invent the ME (Mobility Expanded) brand to make it more appealing to a younger audience. The ME brand was a sub-brand of Jensen and they wanted to give ME its own personality for the earbud and headphone market. Audiovox discovered that the key drivers in earbuds purchase in the $10-$30 range were colors, style, and packaging versus higher priced CE products where performance dominates the purchase decision.

JDA’s next step was to explore packaging solutions. We went to sport shops, grocery stores, and fashion boutiques. We drew inspiration everywhere from how skateboard companies package ball bearings to the edgy graphics on energy drink cans.

We presented a wide array of designs and we expected a selection of one direction that we would refine. Instead, they liked so many of our solutions they decided to shift their original plans and develop a good better best concept for the earbud and headphone line under the ME brand.

earBudeez: Earbuds with Big Personalities
When we first presented the concept of using the earbuds themselves as the eyes of individual characters, it was one of those concepts we thought they would think was “cute” but would never go for it. Well they did go for it! Meet Bodie, Emo, Jay D., Jill, Skull Rojo and Zoie Jane.

HeadShox: Energy for Your Music
Inspired by the multitude of energy drinks, JDA presented a concept that mimicked the size of an energy drink can and suggested a gravity feed display similar to how cans are dispensed. After determining the number of colors they wanted, we developed the packaging color scheme.

HeadShox Metal: Heavy Metal for your Head
In order to offer an earbud at higher price point, Audiovox decided to take the HeadShox and add the word metal. The product itself also has a metallic finish and it offers higher quality sound than the original HeadShox.

Shuffle ME: Clip your iPod and Go
This product was developed for the music lover with an active lifestyle. Just plug in your iPod and you have music without the hassle of cords. Perfect for the athlete who goes to the gym or takes to the open road running and biking.

The Client Weighs In
Janet Hunt, Sr. Manager at Audiovox had this to say about the project: "JDA did an outstanding job reinventing a brand for us. Our goal was to launch a brand of earbud products geared toward a youthful demographic. They provided us with excellent design exploration to choose from at the beginning of the project. But as we narrowed down the final designs, JDA absolutely ran with the idea and went beyond our expectations. It is not often that a project grows into such a labor of love, but their commitment to this project and new brand launch have resulted in a truly unique line. We at Audiovox are extremely happy with the results!"
