JDA Receives Two Awards from American Packaging Design

Out of 1,200 entries, only 120 firms were awarded a certificate of excellence.

JDA Donates Design Work for Worthy Causes
Each year, JDA seeks out special causes and unique projects so we can give back to our local community and beyond. In 2008, we were asked by Hollywood-based independent producer, Gil Cabot, to design identities for HugsAmerica Charities’ “The Family Flame” and “Valiant House”.

What attracted us to HugsAmerica was its ability to create successful grassroots efforts in local communities, and these two projects had special appeal and profound possibilities.

The Family Flame was the inspiration of an elder care worker in Florida, who has dedicated her life to improving conditions and services in nursing homes. With a team of specialists, headed by Dr. Eric Harrison, The Family Flame was founded and expanded to assist the elderly not confined to care facilities and those in medical crisis.      

Valiant House projects are community-based facilities with a dual purpose: to provide safety and security for both victims of child abuse and domestic violence. For the children, the houses are painted a shade of green and generally operate as a foster home, but are earmarked to help with medical and psychological support. For the adults the houses are a shade of blue in neighborhood settings, with emphasis on teaching the warning signs of domestic violence and ways to reach out for help, before becoming victims.  

After completing the two identities, we wanted to help give the HugsAmerica Web site more presence on the Internet. The existing site could represent all of the charities more effectively, so we dedicated additional time to refreshing its look, pacing, readability and navigation.

HugsAmerica established its award-winning charity services in 1993, providing assistance to local and regional causes so they can benefit from the same style of promotion and fundraising efforts experienced by nationally recognized nonprofit organizations.

HugsAmerica supervises the screening, authorization and connection with popular music, television and motion picture celebrities and sports personalities who bring "star power" to hometown charities.

Their appearances at certified and endorsed events help build public awareness through high-profile publicity and media exposure.

JDA along with many other local and national businesses such as Avis, Lowe’s, Best Buy and Croton, have given their time, products, and services to help support the many charities of HugsAmercica and we were happy and proud to help and to be in such good company. Lauren Lucia-Smith shared the following compliment with us: “We have been waiting for a couple of years to find the right designers for the HugsAmerica multi-page Web site, but never did we expect to be lucky enough to find such a quality team for turning our ideas into a great presentation of information and images. Patty Jensen and the JDA design team had tremendous patience with every element we needed to convey, and matched that with an equally wonderful creative touch, which will assist HugsAmerica for years to come.”
