SiriusXM Packaging Redesign Hits the Stores

Out of several current SiriusXM Satellite Radio agencies, JDA was awarded the project to update and create a new packaging system for SiriusXM radio products and accessories. One of primary goals was to make it easier for customers to find the right product and accessory to compliment and enhance their SiriusXM subscription. SiriusXM also wanted to tie the design to their Web site, which is clean with large fields of white, to the new packaging design.

There were several challenges outlined at the beginning of the project:

  • This is a destination product so a consumer will be looking for a SiriusXM product and the brand must be the first read
  • Improve upon the high-tech, modern, sophisticated look without alienating the average customer
  • Update intuitive compatibility of messaging through colors or icons
  • Clearly define the function and additional capability of product
  • Improve upon the "Listen Everywhere" message
  • Must be able to distinguish between the different categories of products
  • Include QR code

The accessory packaging presented more challenges. The direction was to give it a less premium look than the radio package and make it easier to understand which accessory goes with which radio. Although the model numbers for the accessories are generic, this became the best visual cue to connect it to the radio. Plus, the accessories are cross-sold on the side of the radio packaging and the accessory model number was clearly called out.

Michael Mellett, Creative Director at SiriusXM, headed up the packaging project. He reported that: “JDA was awarded the project because they listened to our needs and requirements and provided a flexible design. The subtle tie-in to the web site was well received and the new white package popped off the shelf. So far, the initial response has been very positive.”

Toshiba Promotes their Product at Gaming Tradeshow
Toshiba Notebook Computer Group needed a quick solution to promote their products at a gaming tradeshow. They turned to JDA and Wynalda Packaging to design two stand-up signs that were two-sided and one had a lug on to illustrate their 3D products. The Lama’s (manufacturers name for the signs) were digitally printed and had different graphics on each side.

The best part about the signage is that it ships flat and can be easily assembled at the tradeshow.
