PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Koda Farms Identity and Kokuho Rose Packaging
Objective: To create brand awareness for Koda Farms, update the packaging for their most popular products, Kokuho Rose and Kokuho Blue and to design a website.
Execution: This project posed many challenges—the hardest being the original package of Kokuho Rose dated back to 1963 and the design and logo had great significance to the family. Read More
This logo would be of special importance on the packaging since this is one of the key visual cues current customers looked for when buying the rice. Once this was refined and approved, we continued with other aspects. The Kokuho Rose trademark is a critical component to the packaging. The trademark was updated with a more modern version of the kanji calligraphy in the central ‘medallion” element. The overall color palette of the logo was freshened, but kept similar, to bridge the old to the new look. We also updated the typography. We took multiple store audits and procured rival brands of rice to ensure Kokuho Rose would have singular shelf presence. Finally, we tackled the website. Koda Farms is a family-owned and operated entity dating back to the 1920s. This background provided ample material, enabling us to create a site rich with content. Many Koda Farms Kokuho Rose customers know that the rice is only harvested once annually. The website was an ideal place to advertise the next crop, so they could start looking for it in stores. The look of the website is crisp, clean and utilizes the same colors as the packaging. Close
Client Comment: “JDA combined the right balance of old design elements and new design style to create an updated package that is both recognizable to long-time customers and appealing to new customers.”
